BOIL YOUR TAP WATER until further notice

Water service to all MWRA customer communities east of Weston has been interrupted by a major water pipe break in Weston Due to this break, A BOIL WATER ORDER IS BEING ISSUED FOR DRINKING WATER FOR ALL MWRA COMMUNITIES EAST OF WESTON UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Cambridge is not on the list, but Arlington and Somerville are.

Until today, I did not know that Cambridge has a separate water supply from everything around it. The Cambridge/Somerville line always seemed like such an arbitrary thing to me (especially towards the west where it runs right past a bunch of squares), but apparently now it means the difference between potable water and not. And I'm a couple blocks on the latter side.

I had the same reaction! And my mum's in Lynn, which is the other town in this little bubble without MWRA water. It's all so strange.

Me either! And I didn't realize water would be classified as safe for bathing, but not drinking, or other such distinctions.

I just assumed we all got our water from the Quabbin; I remember hearing that somewhere years ago, and taking it at face value. Learn something new every day!
